Building the Pub

At the end of December I did a post talking about building the interior to the signal box. Since then I’ve kept up the modelling and have been working on the combination of station and level crossing, which in turn brought me to consider what should be on the road from the level crossing.

So the most recent work has been to start making some buildings to line the road. After looking around once again I’m using card models from Scalescenes. These are a PDF file of the design which you mount onto card, cut out and then assemble. Previously I’ve used these to build the engine shed, the viaduct and a retaining wall.

The space around the level crossing is quite small, however there is space towards the back of the layout which will take a couple of buildings. So my plan is on one side of the road will be a pair of shops based on the Scalescene terraced houses with shop fronts. On the other side of the road will be the signal box, but also a corner shop in a similar style. Thankfully Scalescene produce a dedicated corner shop kit to match the rest of the range which includes a range of options for what is being sold. I decided that I’d make mine a pub since there often is one next to a station.

This was a pretty straight-forward build, hence this not being a particular long post. The only thing I needed to do was cut away a small amount of the roof since this goes at the rear of the layout and it would have hit the slope of the loft roof above the layout.

As usual some photos showing the build process……

All that is left to do now is sort out some of the interior details such as lighting and flooring. However this is going to wait until I’ve got more of the buildings completed and then work out exactly where everything fits on the layout.

So onwards to build the next couple of buildings…..
